Exciting new Pick-ups
"K & K Sound" are making waves in the pick-up world.
they have arrived!! I'm having one installed in my Laskin and one in my Emperor. I should be able to report later this week. The Swing Geezers will be using the Emperor in Anger in another week, and we'll see how it holds up.
Their website has some excellent audio files which seem to suggest that these pick-ups sound as good as Microphones. - I have my doubts, but the CD they sent me certainly doesn't sound like any pick-up I've heard before.
Thompson T-3 . A Grand Auditorium / Jumbo guitar in Rosewood.
I have spent the last couple of weeks with this instrument and am very, very impressed with everything about it. It's got a stunningly beautiful voice. Rich and powerful. Sorta like the man I always wanted to be!!
I find the size a tad intimdating but I'm growing used to it. The narrow waist allows it to sit a little lower down on the knee so it's not quite as bulky an instrument as you might think. It's really quite manageable.
.......And what a sound. A simple brush of the strings is enough to bury virtually any other instrument.
Seriously, this is possibly the best guitar I've ever had through the place, including some of my "private stock"
Thompson T-1
Great guitar. This may become my favorite.
The T-1 is Ted's "Concert" size. Reminiscent of a Laskin, Manzer, or Larrivee instrument, the voice is as big as a Jumbo but with the manageable size of a 000 sized instrument. And what a voice!!!! Frankly, I'd be a fool to sell these and I believe that I will simply use them as a demonstration of Ted's talent and take orders.
(My wife calls them "breeding-stock") People really can't believe how good he is without playing one of these.
I ordered another two when this one arrived. The first one has been spoken for and the second is available in August.
Newtone Strings.
These are good. These are very good. In fact, I've never played on a string that sounds quite as good. I've always thought that the differences between good quality strings were pretty minimal. However, these make great guitars sound incredible. I put a set on the Thompson TD (Rosewood Dreadnought) and I find it sounds similar my '55 D-21. 'Not an easy thing to do. - so I changed from a brand new set of top quality strings on the Thompson T-2X .....Wow! It is truly stunning. Apparently the Colling list has been raving about these things. With good reason. I've already sent several sets to the US. How about you?

1906 Gibson 'A' Mandolin
1906 Gibson 'A' model mandolin.
Good condition. Missing the pickguard, with non-original 1-piece bridge and with non-original HSC..
This is a good solid example of a 1st War carved Gibson mandolin. Excellent sweet sound in keeping with the period. No cracks or major damage, but it does show 100 years of life. You should look so good. Excellent value at US$1200.00
