Ever since ivory was banned John has been looking for a substitute that has all the same characteristics...and is just as beautiful! Man-made plastics may come close but they just weren't close enough. So, he went looking for something that already existed in Nature..the use of which would not be ecologically damaging.

The end result is the John PearseÆ Bone Bridge & End Pin Set! Hand-made from the finest quality camel bone, these beautiful pins are indestinguishable from ivory and will make your guitar both look and sound marvelous!Throughout their lives camels carry such heavy burdens that, as a result, their bones--particularly in their legs--develop a density that very closely approximates that of elephant ivory. For this reason, camel bone has long been favored by carvers who were delighted by its stability and the ease with which it could be polished.

After carefully hand-lathing each pin, our artisans inlay it with a dramatic Parisian Eye in Ebonite and Awabi Pearl and then the set is mounted in a presentation base made from exotic Tegenwood.

Each set contains seven bridge pins [in case you lose one!] and a matching end pin.

We are delighted to introduce these wonderful slotted John Pearse Faux Tortoise Shell Bridge Pins with Abalone Dots.

Packaged as a set of seven [for seven string guitars or six strings with a spare] these pins are absolutely the closest thing to the appearance of the REAL thing--the trade in which is now illegal, thank heaven! They are created from Casein, a phosphorprotein of MILK [!!] precipitated by heating it together with a mild acid to form this beautiful and extremely hard-wearing plastic!

We have had such an incredible response to these pins, that we now have available the matching end pin AND strap button!

A good friend, Wayne Henderson, said we needed to have the set so everything on the guitar would match! And guess what you might find on his new guitars!

Perfect for dressing up that little old Martin or a vintage European Romance guitar, they are wonderful on new instruments too! The John Pearse Faux Tortoise Shell Pins vary in light and dark just as real tortoise shell would, with a golden warmth highlighted by the shimmer of Abalone Dot Inlays. [Check out the photo to see the variation that is possible!] Their density adds an interesting coloration to the sound of the instrument, similar to that obtained by using fossil ivory.
