Country Boy - Dreadnought

Mahogany has a quick velocity of sound, relatively lightness of weight, and noticeable midrange overtone attenuation. As a result, mahogany guitars have their own sound. Warm, dry, woody, not particularly complex, but direct, lively, and famously easy to record.

Mahogany guitars are often looked at as poor cousins of rosewood guitars, but we politely disagree, dressing the Country Boy in classic appointments such as ebony fretboard and bridge, wooden rosette, tortoiseshell binding, vintage style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners. We also consider it worthy of the same diamond volute that we use on the back of our Vintage Dreadnought peghead. In addition to selecting only the finest quartersawn and matched South American mahogany backs and sides, the Country Boy

Dreadnought is appointed with an extra-premium sitka spruce top.

When Ricky Skaggs suggested the name "Country Boy" for our mahogany dreadnought, we all fell on the floor. We still wonder where he got such a great idea for a name!

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty. A variety of optional tonewoods, appointments, hardware and finishes are also available.

Country Boy - Dreadnought -DELUXE

We built the first Country Boy Deluxe when flatpicker extraordinaire Bryan Sutton called looking for a Mahogany Dreadnought.  We thought we'd just dress up our Country Boy a bit for him.  Well, that guitar quickly became a beloved guitar and can be seen and heard on Bryan's Sugar Hill release "Bluegrass Guitar".  You can also see and hear this guitar being played by  Keith Sewell (Dixie Chicks, Jerry Douglas & Sam Bush) and 2002 National Flatpicking Champ Scott Fore

The Country Boy Deluxe is a powerhouse of a dreadnought built from Figured Mahogany and Adirondack. Subtle appointments include Rosewood body binding, Brazilian Rosewood headstock veneer, a custom made pickguard and Gold Waverly tuners.

The Country Boy Deluxe is also available in a Sunburst.  The Custom Sunburst pictured is our "Pale Burst".  Click on photo for closer look.

Vintage - Dreadnought

The best thing about our Vintage Dreadnought is that you don't have to imagine what it might sound like if you custom ordered it with an Adirondack spruce top. Ours is the only standard herringbone - style dreadnought that can make this claim.

Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka and Engelmann spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows us to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response and power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from our own backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.

To maintain a vintage look, we select only the highest grade of East Indian rosewood, perfectly matched and quartered with tight, straight grain and darker-than-average color. (Though Brazilian rosewood isn't a standard feature, it is our most popular custom upgrade). To round out the visual package, the Vintage Dreadnought also features herringbone top trim, ivoroid body binding, slotted squares and diamonds inlay, vintage tortoiseshell pickguard, vintage-style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners.

If the best thing about our Vintage Dreadnought is the Adirondack top that comes standard, the next best feature must be the price. Take a moment to compare appointments. We don't think you'll find a better value in an Adirondack topped, traditionally - styled dreadnought!Ý

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty. A variety of optional tonewoods, appointments, hardware and finishes are also available.

Dana Bourgeois Signature Dreadnought

This year Dana decided to build a new guitar for himself. In the process, he designed a new rosette and herringbone purfling to complimentÊ his earlier design of the Dana Bourgeois backstrip. He also decided to pick his top and back woods primarily for tone. The Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood he chose for his DB Signature Woods are not the most pristine examples of those species. But we can guarantee that they are some of the best sounding.

This guitar features "Signature" Adirondack and "Signature" Madagascar RW.Ê We also had the traditional Squares & Diamonds inlay made in Fossil Ivory. Curly Maple body binding, Gold Waverly tuners, Bone pins and a premium pickguard.

I want to include Bourgeois' first testimonial regarding this guitar. I think our customer says it best:

" I just purchased a Signature D. What a wonderful guitar. My decision to buy was instant. This guitar is unlike any that I have played from Pantheon. It has an edgier attack than I expect from Bourgeois and the Adirondack top is uncommonly responsive to a light touch. Already, it sounds as open and lively as I like. To my ears, the balance of fundamentals and overtones from this guitar is near perfect and it has the clearest bottom end of any dreadnought I have played. The visual aesthetic of this instrument is also outstanding with its flamed maple binding and Dana's custom herringbone purfling. I particularly like the ivory inlays - that is a very nice touch. The spider-webbing of the quartered Madagascar back and sides used on this guitar is as nice as any I have seen in this species.

The Signature D can dominate the gap between East Indian Rosewood and Brazilian, and in my house I expect it will get played more than either. Good luck trying to keep up with the demand."

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty. A variety of optional tonewoods, appointments, hardware and finishes are also available.

D-150 - Brazillian Dreadnought

The D-150 is a faithful recreation of the now-classic Bourgeois Brazilian Rosewood Dreadnought made famous by Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Dan Tyminski, and other bluegrass notables. Featuring Dana's unique, single-scalloped X brace system, Premium Brazilian rosewood back and sides and premium Adirondack spruce top, the D-150 delivers a blend of balance and clarity absolutely required for bluegrass (and highly desirable for most other styles of playing!) --but rarely found in a contemporary dreadnought. Elegantly appointed with an abalone rosette, ivoroid body, fretboard and headstock binding, slotted squares and diamonds inlay, and gold Waverly tuners, the D-150 is priced below most vintage Brazilian/Sitka dreadnoughts, delivering great value as well as great tone!

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty. JOM -Vintage

JOM stands for Jumbo OM. The JOM is an original body style developed by Dana in the late 80's, in response to players' requests for a mid-sized guitar having the balance and clarity of an OM--but with a bigger presence.

The idea was simple: Start with the OM outline, enlarge it a bit, play around with the curves and deepen the sides. The result is a wonderfully versatile guitar; larger than an OM, smaller than a Dreadnought, capable of handling almost any playing style you can imagine, and equally capable of operating in solo or ensemble situations.

If you need one guitar to convincingly cut a variety of styles--on stage, in the studio, or just around the house--it's hard to think of a more useful guitar than our standard JOM. Or you can take advantage of the JOM's versatility in a completely different way. In Adirondack spruce and rosewood, the JOM is a killer flatpicking guitar (and it's a lot easier for some people to get their hands around than a Dreadnought); cedar and walnut transform the JOM into a woody, sustaining Celtic player's dream. Or if you need a flattop guitar that can punch out swing rhythm and fat melody, it's hard to beat a JOM in Engelmann spruce and curly maple.

To deliver a vintage look, we select only the highest grade of East Indian rosewood, perfectly matched and quartered with tight, straight grain and darker-than-average color. (Though Brazilian rosewood isn't a standard feature, it is our most popular custom upgrade). To round out the visual package, the JOM Vintage also features herringbone top trim, ivoroid body binding, slotted squares and diamonds inlay, vintage tortoiseshell pickguard, vintage-style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners.

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty. Slope Shoulder - Dreadnought

Our slope shouldered dreadnought is only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought, but what a difference!  Voiced for a more open, though less driving, sound than the Country Boy, the Slope D happily accommodates a wide variety of playing styles including country, blues, old timey, pop, contemporary, and--you name it. And if you're a fingerstyle player looking for a dreadnought-sized guitar that can handle fingerpicks or bare fingers as well as flatpicks, the Slope D is definitely your guitar!

The Slope D's interior construction is reasonably similar to the rest of our guitars, but we sure have fun with the exterior. Standard materials include an  adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and ebony fretboard, headstock and bridge, trimmed everywhere (body, fretboard, headstock, and soundhole) with ivoroid binding. To complement the theme, our original Bourgeois snakehead-style peghead is graced with ivoroid-buttoned Waverly tuners.

And did we mention the standard sunburst finish? We treat our sunbursts like just another piece of wood--no two are exactly the same, and that's the way we like it. Sometimes we are influenced by the colors and textures of the top or back; sometimes we want to de-emphasize a distracting feature in an otherwise outrageous top; sometimes we're after a vintage vibe. Sometimes we're just going for a cool burst!  Recently Dana has started spraying a wild, vintage style "Cherry Burst".

But if sunburst isn't your thing, no problem: Leave it off. We seem to make more variations on the Slope D than any other model. Frequently requested options include natural finish, square headstock, Sitka spruce top, and rosewood, koa or walnut back and sides. With a guitar as versatile as the Slope D you can have it almost any way you like.

Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, Bone Nut & Saddle, Ebony Fretboard, High Gloss Body & Headstock, Satin Neck Finish, Mother-of-Pearl Bourgeois Headstock inlay, Bourgeois Vintage style pickguard, Ivoroid Bridge & End pins, Custom Hardshell Case, and a Pantheon Guitars Limited Lifetime Warranty.Ý A variety of optional tonewoods, appointments, hardware and finishes are also available.

Slope Shoulder Dreadnought -" Banjo Killer"

Our BK slope shouldered dreadnought is only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought, but what a difference!

The BK Slope D features Premium Bearclaw Sitka Spruce and Figured Mahogany back and sides. This guitar is a faithful replica of the famous guitar built for Bryan Sutton that he dubbed "The Banjo Killer". Just like the original, it features Ivoroid body binding on the neck and body but with no binding on the Brazilian Rosewood Headstock veneer. The fingerboard and belly bridge are also Brazilian Rosewood. The pickguard is Hand Made in the style of Bryan's original Banjo Killer and the bridge pins are Ebony with Abalone dots. Nickel Waverly tuners.

Detail of Brazilian Rosewood Bridge

Here's What Bryan Sutton has to say about the guitar:

"From the first time I played the Slope-D Bourgeois that would come to be known as the "Banjo Killer", I was amazed at the range of tone and volume the guitar could produce.  The guitar always seems to be to able to handle any dynamic level of play.

I can hear the guitar clearly in a loud jam session without feeling like I have to overplay and also enjoy a full and sustained tone when I want to play softly. Dana has recaptured that magic with the new BK model. Congratulations Dana on 30 years of great guitars. "
